Full Form of PDA: Personal Digital Assistant
Description: Also known as Personal Data Assistant or Handheld Pc’s, a PDA is a small handheld/mobile device that functions as a personal information manager. A PDA has a visual display, sound/speaker capability(allowing it’s use as a media device), Wi-Fi and browser capability. More then a few of PDA’s also allow their use as mobile phones.
The First PDA: The first PDA was released in 1984 by Psion, the Organizer. Followed by Psion’s Series 3, in 1991, which began to resemble the more familiar PDA style. It also had a full keyboard. The term PDA was first used on January 7, 1992 by Apple Computer CEO John Sculley at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Nevada, referring to the Apple Newton.
People started using PDA’s to carry digital information, contact list, memos and as music player and a small gaming console. With the availability of various applications written in different technologies by people from around the world, their usage purposes kept extending continuously.
These PDA’s gained high popularity and added more and more features with time. With the advent of touchscreen technology, PDA’s became much more famous and smoother to operate. But it was until around 2010, that they suddenly lost their popularity to the Android and Ios operated mobile devices.
